Michelle Shapiro

Tutor

Bio:
Hi!  My name is Michelle Shapiro, and I graduated from pharmacy school in 1991.  Since then, I have worked in almost every type of pharmacy setting, for a grand total of 23 years.  I left the pharmacy arena in 2014 because business people were making rules that led to a very high pressure and high volume environment.

I realized that my strongest pharmacy moments occurred when I was educating someone, whether that was a patient, a doctor, or a nurse.  I could explain a medical concept in layman’s terms, and my audience understood.  I decided to use this skill to tutor students.  In 2014,  I searched for and found a marketplace for students online, and I started tutoring in both math and science, locally and online.  I had some students who I helped online from Ohio to California.  Because of my pharmacy experience, I could also tutor in Organic Chemistry, Pharmacology, Dose Calculations, and Seminar classes.  I enjoyed feedback of 5-star ratings for four years.

In 2017, I started tutoring for the ACT,  due to requests from local parents, who wanted someone who would come in person.  Some of the parents had found someone for the English and Reading sections, and we began working together.   In June 2018, I took the ACT right alongside all the students at Mason High School, in an official proctored environment.  My composite was a 30.  I have learned so much by taking the test by myself, which I have passed on to my students.  The advice is helping students reach higher scores in all of the sections of the test.  I would love to help iAchieve Learning students increase their scores and feel the sense of pride that comes with their achievement!

When  I am not working, I enjoy getting together with family, trying new recipes, and traveling to exotic places, such as Manitoba or the Galapagos Islands.  Hopefully, my Alaska trip will not get canceled a third time this summer, due to COVID-19.
