Steven Walk

Bio:
Hi, my name is Steve Walk and I am a physics tutor and mentor with iAchieve Learning.  As your tutor in physics, my goal is to help you accelerate your learning in your high school physics classes, to help you prepare for your IB or AP physics exam, and to help you get ready for the rigors of university physics courses.

I have been teaching and tutoring AP and college credit (dual-enrolled) high school physics for more than seven years in my most recent of three professional ‘careers’.  My second career included teaching engineering and performing research at several colleges and universities, and in my first career, I worked as a research engineer and as a technical product manager.   These experiences give me a ‘real-world’ approach to understanding and applying theories and concepts in the academic physics curriculum.

Having taught mathematics in many special applications in engineering and physics courses, I tutor students in all junior and senior high school mathematics courses up to Calculus, too.  And having taught technical writing for many years at the university level, I can help with any technical communications tutoring (help with reports, presentations, etc.) a student might need.

I attended the University in Pittsburgh where I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (Summa cum Laude) and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.  I completed additional graduate work at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Drexel University.  I hold a Virginia State Teaching License with a Physics certification.

While I grew up in the Philadelphia vicinity, I lived the largest portion of my adult life in Maine.  Ask me to share stories with you about living in one of the most beautiful states in the country!

Let me tell you something about MY favorite physics teacher!  I knew that a good teacher had mastered the subject material and could be counted on to have all the right answers.  But my favorite physics teacher showed me that the most helpful teacher knows all the wrong answers, too!  Because the teacher can then recognize exactly where to focus to help a student improve their understanding.  I try to be like that most helpful teacher.  Like MY favorite physics teacher was for me.

So, when you feel you need some help mastering fundamental physics concepts or solving difficult physics problems, please consider me as an added resource for your learning.  Whether you are completely lost, want help with some unique problem, or if you are curious and want to go beyond what you are learning in class, I will be happy to work with you!

And because I am online only, I can help you no matter the city or town in which you live in the Chicago vicinity.

And here’s a physics question for you:  Do you believe in time travel, that humans might be able to travel through time? Well, you should.  You’ve been traveling through time since the day you were born!  Just think about that!
