Tim Sonnefeldt

My name is Tim Sonnefeldt and I’m excited to be a part of the iAchieve Learning team.

I’m from the northwest side of Chicago and graduated from Whitney Young Magnet High School and the University of Chicago.
At U of C I majored in Public Policy Studies with a specialization in Urban Studies. I was a four year varsity letter winner for the men’s varsity baseball team as well as a team captain during my Junior and Senior years.
Upon graduation, I worked as a Tax and Accounting Analyst with T.Y. Lin International in the West Loop. However, I knew that this was not my passion. I needed to do something different. So, in January of 2019 I enlisted in the US Army Reserve. I left Chicago for Fort Jackson, SC in May where I attended basic combat training. Then, in August, I arrived in Fort Benning, GA for Officer Candidate School where I commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in October.
Currently I work as a high school substitute teacher. I am also enrolled in Northeastern Illinois University’s MAT program and am on a path towards becoming a high school history and social sciences teacher. I want to become a teacher for the same reason that I joined the Army: because I have a passion for working with and learning from others.
I am proud of my ability to work and to help others succeed under pressure. I believe that I am well-positioned to help students find the best ways in which they can handle the stresses associated with the rigorous nature of the ACT and SAT testing environment.
Separate from academics, I enjoy playing baseball and 16’’ softball, spending time with my friends and family, and watching my cat do weird cat things. I love to read and, occasionally, send in strongly worded opinion pieces to local newspapers. I don’t take myself too seriously and believe there’s always time to laugh and have fun.
