You Can Receive a Scholarship Simply for Your ACT or SAT Score!

College is expensive. There is no getting around this. If you choose out-of-state universities or private colleges to attend, you (or your parents) must be willing to shell out upwards of $30,000 or more a year for tuition, board, and books. In-state universities are less expensive, but you are still probably looking at about $15,000 a year currently.

Being able to avoid graduating from college in severe debt should be a goal for every student and their parents. For instance, if you are able to land a job straight out of college for $40,000 then you don’t want to be saddled with over $100,000 in debt because this will possibly prevent you from being able to live on your own for the near future. Would you rather have a $1,500 a month student loan payment to make for the next 15 to 20 years or instead be able to actually purchase your very first house?

What Is Your ACT or SAT Score?

You just might be in luck! A good ACT or SAT exam score can land you partial or even full scholarship rides. Most students are just trying to achieve a solid score on the exams so they can get into their college of choice. However, it can do much more than this! You could knock tens of thousands of dollars off the price for college if you have achieved an above average score.

National Merit

There is a National Merit competition that recognizes those students who achieve the top Practice SAT scores (PSAT) for each state. You just could land a $2,500 scholarship for a good score through the competition or even more. Colleges hand out larger scholarships when you receive one of the best scores and list them as your first choice through National Merit. Your love for their school could pay off huge dividends if you receive a great score. Keep in mind that public colleges will usually provide a bigger scholarship than private colleges in relation to the National Merit competition.

Do the Research for the University You Want to Attend

Every university offers different amounts for scholarships. While there are some that will look at just your SAT or ACT scores, there will be more scholarships available that will factor in your high school GPA along with your SAT or ACT exam score. It is up to you to ask college officials what the requirements are for their scholarships.

For instance, Alabama State University may give a full ride through the Presidential Academic Scholarship to those that have a 3.76 GPA and either a 26 on their ACT or 1240 on their SAT. They also hand out the Academic Excellence Scholarship which covers full tuition, fees, and books for someone that has at least a 3.51 GPA and either a 22 on their ACT or 1190 on their SAT. In addition, they do an Academic Incentive Scholarship that covers full tuition plus $500 for books and the person only needs a 3.0 GPA and either a 20 on their ACT or 1020 of their SAT. Raise Your ACT or SAT Score

First thing is first, though. You must do well enough on your SAT or ACT exam scores to qualify for these scholarships. Rather than just trying to wing it, you should be preparing for these exams like your life depends on it.
