Inexpensive Ways to Get Tutoring for Your Child This Summer
Every parent is always worried about the “summer learning loss” for their child during a normal summer, and this is going to be anything but your average summer. The quarantine is still in place for many parts of Illinois and who knows exactly when the governor is going to see fit to lift the many restrictions that are in place.
This means that even if school begins on time in late August/early September, students will have been out of the classroom for just about a half year. This is a long time when talking about retaining or increasing student knowledge on all subjects across the board.
Luckily, with the available technology currently out there, it has never been easier to get quality tutoring even with quarantine in place. Even if your child can’t go to the local library and sit down with a tutor, there are ways to work around it that will still have your child learning appropriately.
Video Conference with a Relative
Sometimes your kids will have an easier time learning from anyone else but their parents. It is just the way things go. You were probably the same way as your parents. For some reason, once parents sit down and try to help their own child with their studies, personalities clash.
Since your kids have probably been seeing less of their aunts, uncles, and grandparents in person during the quarantine, start having them video conference with them instead. And once they have a few FaceTime’s under their belt, slyly mention that your children could use some tutoring for certain subjects and perhaps they could help. It won’t cost you a thing and your children will be reconnecting with their relatives.
Websites and Apps
If you are using educational websites and apps to tutor your child, this will take some guidance from a parent along the way. There are about a half a million educational apps and just as many educational websites to choose from. Finding the right ones for what your student needs will take some doing, but if your child sticks with them, they can definitely increase their knowledge of school subjects throughout the summer.

Ask For Help From Your Child’s Former Classroom Teacher
With everyone in education experiencing special circumstances this school year, there is a chance that your child’s classroom teacher can provide you a bit of guidance on what your child will need to work on during the summer. They may have free resources that you can use that will help stop the summer learning loss.
Of course, depending upon the teacher, how much time they actually put in during the summer will probably be limited. They will have their own family to work with and a new curriculum to prepare for the questionable upcoming school year, so to expect them to hold your hand through the summer may be a bit too much to ask. But who knows? They may just surprise you and tutor your child every now and then through email and video conferencing.
