Now Is the Time: Average Standardized Test Scores Aren’t Doing So Well
Have you considered trying for such a solid score on your ACT or SAT that, in turn, you may be able to receive a scholarship to your college of choice?
Well… now is the time.
The average scores for each of these standardized exams are shrinking. So while others are not doing so hot now, now could be your time.
The ACT announced that the average national score from the class of 2022 was 19.8, half a point lower than the 20.3 from the year before. Even further, it is the lowest average score in the last 30 years of the exam. The maximum score possible is 36 points on the ACT.
The SAT recently stated that the average score for the class of 2022 was 1050 out of the maximum 1600 points. This is down from 1060 points the previous year.
It may seem like just a little difference in the scores, but it could make all the difference in the world between being accepted into a school and receiving financial help.
Quick online searches will detail plenty of colleges offering scholarships for all ACT and SAT scores. You could save thousands of dollars by taking a few minutes to look at your possible dream schools.
Don’t Be Fooled into Not Taking One of the Exams
You may have heard that plenty of colleges and universities are willing to overlook students not taking the ACT or SAT. While this is true, if you think for a second that if it comes down to two similar students with the same grade point average, but one of them has earned a high score on a standardized exam, the school will flip a coin on them, then you are mistaken. A good score will still influence admission boards.
Take Advantage of the Extended Testing Dates
The ways students are able to take either exam seem to be growing as well. In the past, if you wanted to take the ACT or SAT, you were asked to give up a Saturday as those were the only testing dates available. But nowadays, they are making it much more convenient.
Students are now allowed to take these exams during a school day, depending on their living location. Often, this is even being done at the state or district’s expense without a financial obligation by the student. To try to get your best score in a situation like this seems like a no-brainer.
