Moments You Should Prepare for in High School
As a high school student or a parent of a kid in high school, there are certain moments you need to prepare for during those four years. If you don’t, these occasions are going to sneak up on you and pass you by. That’s the last thing you want to happen as sometimes these moments can be life-changing.
The First Day of High School
There are very few times in your life that will bring about as much anxiety as your first day of high school. In fact, most of your freshman year will be spent in survival mode as you try to master your social life, classes, and teachers. Prepare ahead of time for the first day otherwise you are going to get lost going from class to class, trying to find your locker, and figuring out just where everything is.
Going Out for the Sports Team
Back in the day, when you were younger, all kids were automatically accepted if you wanted to join the sports team. It didn’t matter if you had any talent or skill for it at all. Everyone was accepted! However, in high school, it will probably be completely different. Only a select number of students will be placed on the team roster. When you are getting ready to try out, make sure you have done everything you could to show the coach why he or she should choose you. And if you don’t make it, just remember that Michael Jordan was cut from the varsity basketball team in high school. You can always pick yourself up and try again the next year!
High School Senior Prom
The senior prom happens right near the end of the school year. It might be a good idea to attend even if you are not exactly interested in dances. It will be one of the last times your whole class will essentially be together in one place. Plan ahead of time and if you have enough courage, ask your secret crush to be your date. If the person says no, at least you tried and you will only have another month of school left to relive the embarrassment every time you see them.
The ACT or SAT Exam
College admission boards will love it if you earn all A’s in your classes in high school. They will be ecstatic to see that you have spent many hours volunteering, are a member of the school band, and played on the championship tennis team. However, don’t think for a second that they will not want to know your ACT or SAT score almost immediately as they leaf through your application.
Most students will not want to wait until the last second to take these exams. A good idea would be to prepare to take either one during the first few months of your junior year. If you receive a poor score, you can take it again a couple of months later. In fact, you can keep on taking it your junior and senior year until you have earned the score that you want. A great score will make it so much easier to get into the college of your choice. Plus, you might be fortunate enough to even receive a scholarship if your score is high enough.
If you feel that test-taking is not one of your strengths, let iAchieve help you out. We offer ACT and SAT tutoring, practice exams, and test prep packages that will provide you the best chance at earning a great score on these standardized exams.
High School Graduation
Even if high school was not all unicorns and rainbows, you probably had more good days than bad. Use your high school graduation to celebrate with your classmates and family. Take the opportunity to say goodbye to numerous people that you might not ever see again. Thank the teachers that made a difference in your life and let them know just how big of an impact they made. (This is what most educators live for.) Leave high school on a high note and proceed on to conquering college!
