Summer Time Is A Good Time To Plan For College
Whether you just completed your first year of high school or are wrapping up your final year there, the summer is the perfect time to get your eggs in a row and tackle some college planning.
It won’t take long at all to do either! Just take a short break from streaming the latest season of Stranger Things, and you could complete much of your planning in a day or two.
Below is a short list to follow to help you get on track and finish your college planning before the first month of summer is complete.
Do You Have a Solid ACT/SAT Score?
While some colleges and universities say standardized test scores are no longer playing a considerable role in their admission process, don’t buy the hype. If you score in the top 30th percentile on either exam, more of your higher learning options will be knocking at your door. Plus, there is a much better chance of earning perhaps a grant or scholarship that will cover some of the cost of college.
Suppose you previously took either exam, and your score was less than desirable. In that case, luckily, you can retake the test, and they will automatically accept the higher score that you earn.
Rather than try studying on your own, iAchieve has ACT/SAT professional tutors who will guide you through the process and fill you in on tips and strategies that will help you land a higher score this time.
Narrow Down Your Top Options
When it comes down to choosing the right college, don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. Figure out your top three choices, mail in your application, and plan on visiting all three schools. One school may look perfect for you online, but the place’s vibe in person could be different than what you are looking for. Before you make your final decision, visiting the schools should be a top priority.
Scholarships and Grants
A few apps available will figure out the scholarships and grants that could be suitable for you. In the past, you had to spend hours upon hours filling out applications. You can quickly determine your best scholarship options in minutes through modern technology. With the cost of college seemingly on the rise yearly, if you can earn a scholarship for even a fraction of the final price, don’t let the opportunity slide away from you.
Struggling with Certain Subjects?
The summer is the perfect time to renew your internal battery and prepare you for the upcoming school year. However, while friends are chilling at home or pool, take a couple of hours out of your week to improve upon the subjects you struggled with. It is incredible how much more you like a subject once you become good at it! There are free educational apps available that should help you as you play catch-up, and there are also plenty of professional tutors that are highly qualified to improve your love of a subject.
Figure Out a Major
We have all heard of the people that start college without a plan in place. Before they know it, they have been in school for a few expensive years without yet nailing down a college major. Use this summer to figure out a college major or two. It is common for a college student to switch majors while attending classes and learning more about a career in a particular field, so having a few college major options will allow you to quickly make a change.
Take a College Course or Two
You can start earning college credits before your years in high school are over. This can be accomplished many times through the high school you are currently attending or through the local junior college. If you keep at it, you could complete one whole year of college before graduating high school. You could be in a career and earning serious money by the time you are 21 years old. How great will it feel to have only three years of college to complete once you walk down the aisle for high school graduation?
