Bio:
Hi! My name is Mary Herman. I would like to tell you about myself (if it’s too much information and you’re nodding off, take a break, down an energy drink and come back)

I am originally from Norridge, the Island in the City since Norridge is surrounded on three sides by Chicago. It’s a neat story – I’ll tell you later. My parents started piano lessons for me at age 6. My brother and sister were already involved in piano lessons. They later stopped taking lessons, but I kept going. Music and singing were huge! I remember walking down the street with my childhood friends singing at the top of our lungs. I guess we were pretty annoying.

Decades later, my daughter and son-in-law live in my parents’ old home with their 2 children. And yes, my daughter is in my choir, my grandson is in my children’s choir and my granddaughter is taking piano lessons In all, I have 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren.

Now even though I have moved and my husband and I made our home in Hoffman Estates, I am still very much connected with Norridge. I am the Music Director at Divine Savior Church in Norridge. I have 3 choirs; an adult, a children’s choir and a contemporary praise group. In addition, I train cantors, compose original music, compose instrumental accompaniments, and vocal harmonies. I am also a substitute teacher for Schaumburg School District 54.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching piano and voice. There is such joy in helping people develop their potential! I love to share the experience when a student works through a challenge. I learn from them as I get to know their talents and their preferences. I believe in a solid base of fundamentals, but that doesn’t mean it can’t also be enjoyable. I work with students and parents to establish realistic and attainable goals – and celebrate when goals are reached and when progress is made.
