Alaina Knier

Tutor

Bio:
Hi! My name is Alaina Knier, and I recently graduated summa cum laude from Saint Louis University (SLU) with a Master’s Degree in Chemical Biology and Pharmacology. I’m originally from Grafton, Wisconsin–about 30 minutes north of Milwaukee–but moved south because I am NOT a winter person, and currently live in Ballwin, Missouri!

I decided to become a tutor because I was able to improve my ACT score to a perfect 36 on my third attempt, and I also placed in the top 10% of SAT takers. I am confident I can help you improve your own ACT/SAT score if you work with me! I have lots of strategies for taking standardized tests, both in terms of actual content and for managing the stress of taking such a big test. I have always loved school and learning, and this extends to helping other students achieve. I was a peer tutor while still in high school and I strongly believe that individual, 1:1 learning time is the best way for students to learn, as every student is unique and learns differently. This is my full-time job while I complete the certifications I need to become a lab manager in drug discovery for a pharmaceutical company. As you can probably guess from my degrees, one of my main interests is science and drug discovery–I did my thesis research in a drug discovery lab where we were looking to find a cure for Hepatitis B Virus. Outside of science, I love reading and writing fiction, acting in theater productions, baking, sewing, and lots of other crafts! I also have two kitties, Herbie and Zoey, who are likely to pop their heads into tutoring lessons from time to time.
