Tommy Swanson
Bio:
Hello! My name is Tommy Swanson. I am from sunny Orlando Florida and I am new to the Chicagoland area! My background is in music, and I have a degree in Music Performance. I started the flute when I was 9 years old, and have been playing ever since. I have had the opportunity to perform at world-renowned places such as le Conservatoire de Nice, el Conservatorio de Guatemala, the Orford Music Festival in Quebec, the National Flute Convention, and the Tanglewood Festival. I am also grateful to have won the Wisconsin Flute Festival Masterclass Competition, the Texas Flute Society Masterclass Competition, and 2nd prize in both the High School and Young Artists’ Competitions at the Florida Flute Convention. I am currently studying to become a certified Music Therapist and an Alexander Technique Teacher. My goal is to use both these practices to work with Children with ASD, and people who are rehabilitating. I have loved math since my elementary school years. It’s a puzzle that I always want to solve! Through my years of study, I reached the level of Calculus 2. I received a 5 on my AP Calc AB & BC tests. I love the challenges it poses, and the thoughts it provokes. Teaching is an incredible part of what I do. I have had the opportunity to teach at Summer Camps, at Schools, and at Universities. These positions have allowed me to work with an extremely diverse age range, and with many levels of talent and prestige. I love helping my students find their voice, and find the courage to be who they are and guide them to who they are destined to be!
