Kyle Downs

Music

Bio:
My name is Kyle Downs and I am a guitarist, bassist and educator from Dallas, Texas.  I am new to Chicago, but back home I taught 6-12th grade guitar classes during the day while keeping an active performing schedule at night.  I enjoy giving my students the keys to unlocking their own creativity through music and demystifying the intimidating process that making music can be.  I studied Jazz Guitar at the University of North Texas’s famed College of Music, the largest in the country.  Some of the highlights from my time there are traveling to Washington DC to open up for the US Army Blues band, and being selected to perform in a celebration of the music of Frank Zappa, performing alongside Arthur Barrow, one of Zappa’s longest-serving bassists.  I enjoy studying the techniques of guitarists across the musical spectrum, from jazz to gospel, blues, classical and metal.  I believe there is something valuable to learn from every form of music and love to see how they mesh (or don’t)!
