Marissa Salberg
Bio:
Hello! I’m Marissa Salberg and I live on the Missouri River in South Dakota with my rescue supermutt, Shelby. Originally from Iowa, I wandered here through several other states, teaching secondary ELA to hundreds of students along the way. Most recently, I taught online courses (upper English & AP Literature) with Northern State University’s E-Learning Center, and I remotely tutor promising juniors in SAT prep and college essay composition for a nonprofit in North Carolina.
As a published poet who has written my way into competitive fellowships and international conferences, I know the moves that propel a proposal to the top of the pile. More importantly, as an award-winning educator of 20 years, I’m able to transmit those tactics to my students through thoughtful feedback and a warm, personalized approach. My greatest joy is helping a student unearth their singular story and cultivate the voice that will make it shine.
My passions beyond writing and teaching include hiking in as many National Parks as I can (23 so far!), attempting new recipes, dancing, and solo travel. My next destination is Peru, and from there – who knows?
