Bio:
Hello! My name is Ben Purcell. I have more than 10 years of experience tutoring students primarily at the high school and college level, with particular expertise in helping to raise their ACT/SAT exam scores and craft application-enhancing college essays.

My students have gone on to win major scholarships and attend Ivy League schools. For 5 years, I lived and worked in the North Shore suburbs of Chicago, teaching test prep in private and public schools and working as a teaching/research assistant to a history department chair at Northwestern University.

I am currently in my 5th year as a social studies teacher at Graduation Academy, an alternative high school within Indianapolis Public Schools for students facing challenging circumstances. I was recently awarded Graduation Academy’s “Teacher of the Year” honor for the second year in a row and am currently implementing a school-wide literacy initiative after being awarded a grant for the project.

I have always enjoyed tutoring because I get a chance to get to know students one-on-one, break down and solve their toughest challenges step-by-step, help and watch them achieve goals, and talk with them about their plans for the future.

In my free time, I enjoy coaching sports, reading about history, traveling, and spending time with my wife and our two pugs. I also teach the Adult Sunday School class at my church and give Bible lessons most Sundays in the county jail.
